Greenkeeping
With 365 acres of golf course, lawns and
gardens, our team of Greenkeepers have the monumental task of
ensuring our Cotswold retreat is kept in tip-top condition.
Paul Bishop - Estate Manager
Paul has been at Manor House since 1994, previously working at
the East Sussex National during construction. Having been in Green
keeping since 1980, nearly half his time has been spent here at
The Manor House watching the course come on in leaps and
bounds.
Paul's qualifications include City and Guilds Phase I - IV in
Sportsturf, Enterprise and Business Management and a Diploma in
Sportsturf. Paul is currently undertaking his Master Greenkeepers
Certificate of which presently there are only a handful in the UK.
If he doesn't have enough homework to do, Paul has decided to look
at a Degree in Horticulture so he can broaden his knowledge on the
garden side of life at The Manor House. What a busy chap!
A day in the life of a Greenkeeper...
Starting at 6am, the team run through the tasks for the day.
Then it's out into the fresh Cotswold air! Here are just a few of
the jobs our team are tasked with in the height of the
season...
Hand-cut greens daily, cut tees, cut fairways, check
and rake bunkers and cut semi-rough. Other jobs may include
top-dressing, aeration, fertilisation and watering in the hot
periods. Then there is Chef's Kitchen Garden, the lawns and our
idyllic Italian gardens that need TLC too!
